Duke of Westminster waves to crowds after marriage to Olivia Henson

Olivia Henson's marriage to Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster, was heralded as the society wedding of the year, with Prince William and Princess Eugenie in attendance.

The bride stunned in her wedding gown and veil by Emma Victoria Payne, with even the windy weather failing to dampen spirits as the happy couple tied the knot at Chester Cathedral, close to his family home Eaton Hall.

But it was the intricate and thoughtful details that made the new Duchess of Westminster's look extra special, as she paid tribute to both her and her husband's families.

The veil in particular stood out not just for its beauty as it billowed out behind her, but also the extraordinary vintage lacework sewn in.

The floral motif of the lacework was inspired Ms Henson's great-great grandmother's veil, worn for her own wedding circa 1880 and perhaps incorporated as part of her 'something old'.

The initials of the bride and groom, as well as the date of their wedding - June 7 2024 - were also stitched into the veil as part of the embroidery.

Royal watcher @JenCarsonTaylor commented on the design on X: "Imagine if their children embroider their initials and dates of their marriages onto it as well? Another Grosvenor family treasure started by this young couple."

Perhaps the most valuable aspect of the new Duchess of Westminster's ensemble was the Fabergé Myrtle Wreath tiara, which has been handed down through her husband's family for over 100 years.

The tiara was first worn by Lady Mabel Crichton for her wedding to Lord Hugh Grosvenor, the son of the first Duke of Westminster and for whom the current Duke is named.

It is a very precious 'something borrowed' for the bride and very rare, as the Russian Fabergé house was best known for its ornate jewelled eggs and made very few tiaras.

All Grosvenor brides have since worn it on their wedding day, a charming tradition which the happy couple were no doubt keen to maintain.

The 'something blue' was Ms Henson's shoes, a modern touch to her very classic look, which are designed by Spanish bridal house Silvia Lago and cost £343.

Royal fans online gushed over the ceremony, with one writing: "Absolutely magnificent! I loved her dress! Perfection!" and another adding: "The details are so perfect!!!"

Prince William served as an usher for his old friend the Duke, who is also godfather to Prince George and Prince Archie, although Prince Harry respectfully declined his invitation due to the ongoing royal feud.
