King Charles made an emotional admission during the Trooping the Colour carriage ride with Queen Camilla on Saturday.

The 75-year-old, who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, was reportedly advised by medical professionals to conduct the Trooping the Colour review from the comfort of a carriage, instead of on horseback.

As he smiled, waved and made his way along The Mall, the monarch was closely followed by his daughter-in-law, the Princess of Wales and his three eldest grandchildren - Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six.

Speaking to the Mirror, lip reader Nicola Hickling shared that the King revealed that he was feeling emotional in a comment made to his wife.

According to Nicola, the King said: "Oh dear, I don't know why I'm feeling rather tearful."

As the King finished the military parade with a salute, he looked as though he was feeling emotional once again.

After this, the King was joined by his wife and other members of his family on the Buckingham Palace balcony to watch the RAF Flypast.

The Princess of Wales confirmed on Friday that she would be attending this year's Trooping the Colour - her first public appearance since Christmas Day. She was also joined by her children, George, Charlotte and Louis.

The royal, like the King, was also diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and chose to share the news via an emotional video back in March.

In her statement last week, Kate shared: "...I'm looking forward to attending The King's Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet..."
