Queen Camilla diligently wore the Grenadier Guards military brooch to honour Queen Elizabeth II whose birthday would have been marked by Trooping the Colour.

Standing side-by-side with her husband, King Charles, the Queen dazzled crowds with her choice of dress for the King's second Trooping the Colour. She opted for a pale green silk crepe dress and coat by designer Anna Valentine.

She also wore a striking cream-coloured hat with a large brim by designer Philip Treacy - alongside the sentimental brooch.

A fine jewellery expert at Steven Stone said the bejeweled piece Camilla wore featured the cypher of the late monarch’s father, King George VI. Zack Stone explained: "Set with diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds, the bejeweled piece features the cypher of her [Queen Elizabeth II's] father, King George VI.

"The late monarch first donned the brooch during a Parade of the Grenadier Guards on her 16th birthday in 1942. She continued to wear it for various parades and inspections of the Grenadier Guards throughout her reign. Its final appearance was at Windsor Castle in 2018."

Queen Camilla

Queen Camilla first showcased the brooch at a Buckingham Palace ceremony in April 2023. Just a few weeks later, she wore it again at the King’s inaugural Trooping the Colour, last year.

Zack explained: "Its presence at this year’s event suggests that this elegant piece will continue to be a cherished accessory for many years to come. I’d estimate the historic piece to be worth £10k."

Queen Camilla took over a role left vacant when the Duke of York was forced to give up all his military appointments, and she was appointed in late 2022.

The responsibility for delivering state ceremonial and public duties falls on the seven regiments of the senior military unit. Traditionally, the monarch holds the appointment of colonel-in-chief of the regiments. Along with this, each one typically also has a colonel. This is normally either a senior officer or a member of the Royal Family.

Both Queen Camilla and the Princess of Wales had significant changes in their ceremonial military positions for Trooping the Colour.

Both were handed their very own Colonelcies by The King - Camilla taking up the mantle of the Colonel of the Grenadier Guards and Kate stepping into Prince William's shoes as Colonel of the Irish Guards.

The Princess of Wales became the new Colonel of the Irish Guards in March 2023, taking over from Prince William, who had held the position since 2011. He stepped into the role of Colonel of the Welsh Guards, succeeding his father.

Camilla's acceptance of Prince Andrew's previous role as the Colonel of the Grenadier Guards followed tradition - as the position is typically held by the monarch's consort.

Trooping the Colour marks the official birthday celebration of the monarch, with King Charles' actual birthday being on 14 November. It featured 1400 soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians parading down The Mall and at Horse Guards Parade. Following the parade, the Royal Family stood on Buckingham Palace balcony to view the iconic RAF flypast from the balcony.
