Man Utd: Pundit discusses Saul Niguez transfer in 2019
Manchester United are close to signing Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez for £70million, Spanish media have claimed. The Spain international has been linked with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side for some time. And it seems like the Red Devils are close to landing their man and ending months of speculation in the process.
Manchester United turned down the chance to sign Saul when he was a teenager but, in the years since, he’s flourished at Atletico Madrid.
The Spain international has become a vital member of the squad under Diego Simeone and, before the coronavirus crisis brought football to a halt, helped knock Liverpool out of the Champions League.
Saul has a buyout clause of £142m but Todo Fichajes claim United are on the verge of signing him for £70m instead.
It’s claimed that talks between the two clubs are practically closed.
And the agreement will reportedly be made official by the end of the current campaign - whenever that will be.
Atletico are willing to accept a lower fee or Saul because of how the coronavirus crisis has seen the player’s value drop.

And he gave a glowing endorsement of the player, saying: "He’s another one, what a player. I’ve been harping on about Saul Niguez for a few years now.
"I think he’s a major player.
"Composed, calm, great left foot, lovely conductor, he can score goals, tactically he’s very aware.
"You can see Simeone, he gets his teams really well set up and he’s in the middle orchestrating and dictating things.
"Saul Niguez is huge and it’s come out in the papers this week that Man Utd are interested in him, but we’ll have to wait and see. Man Utd are linked to everyone."
Solskjaer admitted over the weekend that the upcoming transfer window would be a ‘new world’.
"We're always looking to improve the squad,” said the Norwegian.
“This uncertainty in the market now, who knows how football and the market is going to be, but I'm very happy with the squad I've got.
"Today's world is different to what it was two months ago.
“We've got to adjust, adapt, there's clubs out there struggling more than us financially. It's a new world, and I think the transfer market this summer will be completely different to what anyone thought it would be."
