Jo Whiley opened up about her “rollercoaster” coverage of Glastonbury which left BBC viewers distracted and concerned about her health.

The TV star revealed she was “beyond grateful” to on-site medics who tended to her extremely strained vocal cords.

Although Jo has been presenting at the iconic festival since 1997, fans took to social media just minutes into the BBC live episode as she struggled to speak.

Taking to Instagram, the 58-year-old opened up about the behind-the-scenes with a carousel of photos from the annual music event.

Alongside snaps with her co-stars Clara Amfo and Jack Saunders, Jo wrote: “Oh My!! Glastonbury 2024 was a bit of a rollercoaster.”

In the lengthy caption, she continued: “Losing my voice two hours after arriving at Glastonbury was NOT what I expected and made things a *bit* tricky.

“I’m so grateful to everyone for the advice, remedies and honey & lemon. Special mention to Jim the festival medic who came to my rescue yesterday mid-radio show!”

Over the weekend, as the coverage aired, social media was flooded with suggestions for Jo as viewers pointed out that she needed “throat lozenges” for her “raspy” voice.

There were also well-wishes for the TV star as @alex_cefai urged: “@glastonbury somebody give Jo Whiley a break!”

During the live episode, Jo also addressed her voice and assured fans: “I have been having honey and lemon...everything that I could have possibly done, I have done. It's the most awful timing for this to have happened.”

Her co-host Clara added: “I can confirm Jo Whiley has made every effort to preserve that iconic voice of hers and I guarantee it will be back before the end of Glastonbury. We have high hopes.”

Nevertheless, the presenter proved to have a good time as she was all smiles in the Instagram post and grinned alongside performer Corinne Bailey Rae.

Jo continued with a “special thanks to my Glasto radio & TV family for your hard work, love, support, producing, co-ordinating, driving, face painting & dressing up.”
