The 55-year-old, who is one of the judges on the new talent show, revealed that he and the Take That singer have knocked heads on the BBC programme.
Speaking on today’s edition of Good Morning Britain, he said: “We disagree with what’s right and wrong for the show.”
He continued: “We disagree, at the end of the day we're trying to find five guys for Gary’s musical.”
When asked by host Piers Morgan if he felt he was going up against Simon Cowell’s X Factor and The Voice, which switched channels this year, he said he was just serving as a judge.
“Listen whatever show you do, you have to put your head above the parapet,” Martin told him.
Reflecting on some of the auditions he’d seen, the Birds of A Feather star explained: “This show is filled with talent. They walk on stage and you wonder where they have been.
“It shocks me. I can’t help thinking that every boy that is walking through that door is my son.”

Speaking to Express.co.uk recently, he reflected on being on the Let It Shine panel, saying: "Judging, it was good. It's really nice.
"I've been in this business for 45 years, so it's nice to give that knowledge and information to kids that are starting out."
Martin will be on the panel along with Gary as the singer-songwriter searches for five young men to play a fictional boyband in his new musical.

The show will be starting in the new year and serve as a replacement to The Voice, which has now moved to ITV after five series on the BBC.
Viewers got a sneak peek at the new programme after a trailer for Let It Shine dropped after the Strictly Come Dancing final.
Let It Shine will air on BBC One on January 7.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
