Huw Edwards has been back at Westminster Magistrates' Court today, where he previously made a chilling remark to an adult accomplice who told him a boy in an image was "quite young looking". The former BBC news presenter pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children on July 31.

Back in July, the court heard that Huw had been involved in an online chat with an adult man on WhatsApp between December 2020 and August 2021. The adult man sent him 377 sexual images with 41 of those images being indecent images of children.

The indecent images that were sent included seven category A, the worst, 12 category B, and 22 category C. Of the category A images, the estimated age of most of the children was between 13 and 15, but one was age between seven and nine, the court was told.

The court heard that at one point, on February 2, the adult accomplice asked if the ages of the children in the images were "too young". In response, Edwards had a chilling remark. He told the accomplice not to send any underage images, the court heard.

Today, he faces his fate for his crimes as he has returned to court. Appearing today (September 16) at Westminster Magistrates' Court, he could either be sentenced, or the case could be referred to a higher court.

The possible punishments include a three-year jail term or a community order where he has to accept help in a sex offender rehabilitation programme.

Edwards arrived at court carrying a suitcase and dressed in a plain white shirt and cardigan.

Huw stepped down from the BBC in April this year - his last appearance being on the News at One on 5 July 2023, with his resignation announced on 22 April 2024.

After more than four decades working for the BBC, the broadcaster released a statement in April this year announcing Edwards' departure.

It said: "After 40 years of service, Huw has explained that his decision was made on the basis of medical advice from his doctors.
The BBC has accepted his resignation which it believes will allow all parties to move forward. We don't believe it appropriate to comment further."
