Gripping medical drama starring Gilmore Girls heartthrob finally arrives on Netflix
An addictive medical drama is finally coming to Netflix in the UK - and it stars one of Gilmore Girls' biggest heartthrobs.
The Resident, a popular US medical drama series, is coming soon to Netflix UK. The show, which follows the medical staff at the fictional Chastain Park Memorial Hospital, stars one of Gilmore Girls’ most memorable actors.
Matt Czuchry, who played the third and final boyfriend of Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) in the beloved mother-daughter series, stars front and centre in The Resident.
The Logan Huntzberger actor portrays Dr. Conrad Hawkins, whom Tudum describes as “a fist-bumping, cocky, and beloved senior resident at Chastain Memorial”.
The overview continues: “He knows the ropes, he knows the rules and how to break them… he knows just about everything.”

What is The Resident about and where is it set?
The Resident is a long-running medical series that takes place in Atlanta, Georgia. It follows Conrad and other staff at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital as they deal with crises at work, romantic woes and personal dilemmas.
The description for the show reads: “A medical student learns tough lessons about hospital life and endures intense on-the-job training under the supervision of a brilliant senior resident.”
The medical student in question is Dr. Devon Pravesh (Manish Dayal), one of the hospital’s optimistic new residents, who struggles to adapt to a high-pressure environment while the rest of his cohort seems to roll with the punches.
Meanwhile, Conrad is a brilliant attending physician of internal medicine, who is in his third year of residency at Chastain Memorial at the beginning of the show.
According to Tudum, the first season “follows justice-driven senior resident Conrad; Conrad’s trainee, the newly minted doctor, Devon, who’s quickly thrown to the wolves when the ER becomes short-staffed; and veteran surgeon Dr. Randolph Bell (Bruce Greenwood), who’s keeping his own medical diagnosis a secret, despite its devastating effects on some of his patients”.

Meanwhile, 90210 and Rise actor Manish Dayal portrays Dr. Devon Pravesh, a resident internist at Chastain Memorial.
Another leading cast member is Fall of the House of Usher’s Bruce Greenwood, who stars as Randolph Bell, the hospital’s chief of surgery.
Other cast members include Revenge’s Emily VanCamp as nurse practitioner Nicolette Nevin, House of Anubis’ Tasie Lawrence as Devon’s fiancée and journalist Priya, Black Panther’s Shaunette Renée Wilson as surgical resident Dr. Mina Okafor, Big Little Lies Merrin Dungey as hospital CEO Claire Thorpe and CSI: NY’s Melina Kanakaredes as oncologist Lane Hunter.
When does The Resident arrive on Netflix UK and how many seasons are there?
The Resident will hit Netflix UK this week on Friday, September 20 after having dropped on Netflix US earlier this year.
There are six seasons of the show, which originally premiered on Fox in 2018.
The Resident’s final season aired in 2023, and it has been confirmed there won’t be a seventh season.
