As Good Morning Britain  began on Monday, Susanna Reid took the opportunity to welcome her co-host back to the fold.

After a brief overview of the day's upcoming features, she greeted Richard Madeley with a warm: "Welcome back."

Richard gratefully accepted the sentiment, replying: "It's good to be back."

In recent weeks, viewers had grown accustomed to seeing Ed Balls lead the show while Richard took some time away from his on-screen responsibilities.

The reaction to Richard's comeback sent viewers on Twitter into a frenzy as many voiced their delight, reports the Mirror.

Previously, Richard made an unexpected exit from the programme last month, resulting in Sean Fletcher stepping into cover for him.

Katwe Garraway informed viewers about Richard's sudden absence, revealing: "Now if you were expecting to see Richard Madeley here, I think Richard Madeley was expecting to be here as well!

"He's feeling a bit poorly this morning, so we've got lovely Sean, which is fantastic."

Richard Madeley made waves upon his return by acknowledging a slowdown in his intense workload.

He revealed this during a heart-to-heart with Olympian Max Whitlock, admitting: "So many careers don't have a hard stop, you continue to progress, or you just slowly, quietly as I'm doing filter to a stop. But how do you manage the hard stop?"

This candid statement caught the attention of viewers, leading some to speculate whether Richard was hinting at taking a step back from Good Morning Britain.

In his absence, the ITV show has featured a rotating roster of hosts including Ed Balls, Sean Fletcher, and Charlotte Hawkins.

Good Morning Britain contimues weekdays on ITV from 6am.
