Good Morning Britain halts show for sad 'breaking news' announcement

Good Morning Britain came to a pause as the ITV hosts shared a sad announcement live on air.

Fans were left devastated and took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to send heartfelt messages of condolence. “So sad news to hear this RIP Tito Jackson,” wrote one user. A second penned: “RIP Tito Jackson. Rest in peace with your Brother.”

“Rest in peace Tito Jackson my sincere condolences for the family, I’m so shocked and sad. It’s not impossible,” added a third person.

While others wrote to his sister Jannette Jackson directly and said: “I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your brother Tito Jackson. May peace and comfort be with you and the rest of the Jackson family.”

ITV producers paused Good Morning Britain to share the news that Tito Jackson had suddenly died. He found fame after starting out in the band Jackson 5, and went on to have a successful solo career.

The I Want You Back hitmaker is the brother to the late Michael Jackson. Hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley opened the programme by sharing the shocking news.

News reporter Marverine Cole said: “Jackson 5 legend Tito Jackson has died aged 70. Tributes have poured in from across the globe for the brother of the late pop King Michael Jackson, who reportedly passed away after suffering a heart attack while driving.”

Before adding: “The music icon and rock and roll inductee was performing with the group as recently as August. He is famous for hits such as Blame it on the Boogie”

Both Susanna, 53, and Richard, 68 appeared sad by the news as they expressed their deep sympathy to the Jackson family and sent their condolences. Tito had appeared on the show on numerous occasions discussing life on the road and his tours.

His three sons Taj, Taryll and TJ Jackson announced the news via a social media post. They shared that their hearts were “heavy” following the devastating announcement.

“It’s with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson is no longer with us. We are shocked, saddened and heartbroken. Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being.

“Some of you may know him as Tito Jackson from the legendary Jackson 5, some may know him as “Coach Tito” or some know him as “Poppa T.” Nevertheless, he will be missed tremendously. It will forever be “Tito Time” for us. Please remember to do what our father always preached and that is “Love One Another.” We love you Pops,” read the statement posted on Instagram late on Sunday.

Alongside the caption, they uploaded an image of Tito in his younger years standing with his children who all grinned at the camera.

Steve Manning, a long-standing family friend and former Jackson family manager, told Entertainment Tonight that he was left devastated.

Despite a cause of death not being determined, Manning believed that Tito suffered a heart attack while driving from New Mexico to Oklahoma.
