ITV presenter Richard Madeley has been slammed by viewers for his "annoying" interview with Sir Ed Davey. The Good Morning Britain host spoke to the Liberal Democrat leader on Monday morning ahead of their annual party conference.

During the conversation, both Richard and Susanna Reid asked Ed whether he regrets the Liberal Democrats decision to go into government with the Conservatives in 2010 and the impact of austerity on the NHS.

In one part of the interview, Susanna was grilling the MP as she said: "I'm not asking abbout 2015 with all due respect, I'm aksing about 2010."

As she continued talking, the MP closed his eyes and with his eyes still closed said: "I was about to confirm." He then looked away from the camera, avoiding contact, while Susanna continued to quiz him.

When she finished talking, Ed continued: "Well, I was about to say," before going into the policies put in place at the time.

However, ITV viewers were left unimpressed after the hosts kept on "interrupting" Sir Ed Davey. One person moaned on X: "Would be nice if presenters actually let people answer a question. Constant interruption is so annoying."

A second person chimed in: "how rude is @richardmadeley1 interrupting Sir Ed Davey ignoring his answer even though he is answering the question he was asked, disrespectful and rude." [sic]

A third fan also typed: "Richard Madeley keeps interrupting this man he can't finish his sentence without Richard throwing another question at him. @GMB."

Meanwhile, others were supportive, with one person writing: "Great interview Susanna and Richard. Ed Davey could not answer some very valid questions you both put to him."

The divisive discussion came after fans also noticed that Sir Ed Davey kept called Susanna the wrong name. He accidentally kept labelling her 'Susanne' more than once, which was picked up by viewers at home.

One person said online: "Ed Davey doesn't know Susanna Reid's name, keeps calling her Susanne @GMB @susannareid100."

The Liberal Democrats are using their annual party’s conference in Brighton this week to celebrate their momentus results at the general election. They won 72 seats, an improvement of 64 from the previous election.

Good Morning Britain airs daily at 6:30am on ITV.
