‘It’s doomed’ Emmerdale’s Samantha Giles teases Bernice wedding drama on This Morning
THERE’S high drama on Emmerdale tonight as Bernice and Lawrence’s wedding day finally arrives - but their chances of a happy ending are looking very slim, according to actress Samantha Giles.
Emmerdale's dramatic wedding scenes air tonight
Speaking to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on This Morning, she and co-star John Bowe teased the hurdles they still have to overcome, including the speculation that Lawrence may be gay.
The relationship has been disapproved of by Bernice’s family, and she herself has struggled with the fact that Lawrence won’t have sex with her.
“It’s a bit doomed really, isn’t it,” said Samantha, who has played the character on-and-off since 1998. “It’s not a good start… She is a very physical person, she’s always been attracted to men, she likes having sex quite a lot.
“There isn’t a very physical thing between the two of them. It’s been a pressure cooker… It’s all just gone bang really.”
The ceremony is unlikely to go to plan

It does have many twists and turns before we finally arrive at whatever the conclusion is
“Or not!” Phillip joked.
Asked about Lawrence’s sexuality, John said: “If he is [gay], it was scared out of him back in the 60s when he was incarcerated for being a homosexual.
“In the backstory… we gather he had a relationship with Edna’s husband, Harold. When taken to trial, they ganged up against him… he was put in prison, given aversion therapy, had a very difficult time. As in real life so many individuals had!”
Tonight viewers will see Lawrence offering Bernice “free reign” to sleep with other people if she agrees to still tie the knot with him, but whether or not they do make it down the aisle remains to be seen.
“It’s so brilliantly constructed,” John promised. “It does have many twists and turns before we finally arrive at whatever the conclusion is.”
Chances are that Lawrence is secretly gay
Samantha said of the scenes: “We had a great director as well… I find it very difficult to cry, and he would just come up to me and say something in my ear [like] things I hadn’t thought about, the crux of the scene.”
Emmerdale continues tonight at 7pm on ITV.
