Clive Myrie says Naga Munchetty is 'looking daggers'

BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent was reporting live from a hustings in Sunderland ahead of Labour's victory being officially announced across the nation while Naga Munchetty was at another in Blyth. She was anticipating the first results as she reminded viewers Blyth missed out on the first count in 2019 as there was one bundle which needed to be recounted.

Meanwhile, Sally thanked the many sixth-formers who were "running these boxes in" with the aim of Sunderland declaring the first count. Sally then said a woman called Jackie haD "brought back her A team who are counting at the back of this room right now".

"They are confident," Sally enthused. "And Jackie told me they are going to win." Back in the studio, BBC host Clive Myrie told Sally: "Well, it could all be down to Jackie..."

Clive joked about how the result could pan out, with Naga looking rather vexed from her monitor at the thought of Blyth losing to Sunderland. Clive commented: "Thank you Sally and to you Naga, as well... Naga's looking daggers there. It's great to see you both, thank you."

Naga started smiling and forcing a massive grin without saying anything to Clive as the programme cut back to the studio. As Naga and Sally went off-screen Clive said he was one "of those kids with the boxes" during an election count.

In the end, it was Houghton and Sunderland South which declared the vote first, with viewers taking to social media to comment on Naga's defeat.

One BBC fan penned: "Sally Nugent, in Sunderland, beats Naga Munchetty in Blyth for the first result, but, no hard feelings at the next BBC team building exercise."

A second added: "Naga’s looking daggers has to be said carefully #bbcelection #GeneralElection2024."

Another noted: "Naga Munchetty's earning her corn today, she was on #BBCBreakfast this morning..."

Labour's Sir Keir Starmer will be the UK's new Prime Minister after knocking out the Conservatives in this year's General Election. Outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he took responsibility for the electoral defeat inflicted on his party as it suffered its worst-ever result.

Starmer explained at a victory rally that the country can now "get its future back" after 14 years of Conservative rule.

He added: "Four-and-a-half years of work changing the party, this is what it is for - a changed Labour Party ready to serve our country, ready to restore Britain to the service of working people.

"And, across our country, people will be waking up to the news, relief that a weight has been lifted, a burden finally removed from the shoulders of this great nation."
