Election 2024: Rishi Sunak acknowledges election defeat to Labour

Ranvir Singh left Good Morning Britain viewers in stitches with a sharp jibe following the Tory Party's most devastating defeat in history.

The ITV host was out braving the rain for the morning news programme's extended General Election coverage. Stationed outside Tory HQ, cameras panned to her for any reaction from Rishi Sunak after his crushing loss to the Labour Party on Friday.

Making a brief appearance on camera, Ranvir captured the moment Sunak returned to his office post-announcement that Keir Starmer would be assuming the role of Prime Minister. She posed the question live on TV, asking the outgoing PM if he "blames himself" for the defeat.

Receiving no response, Ranvir seemed to deliver a biting remark at Sunak's expense after being ignored by the politician. Speaking to hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid on camera, the Lorraine stand-in star quipped: "Look at the weather, its miserable."

She went on to say: "But by the way Rishi Sunak, I've checked the weather in California. Its sunny, its 30 degrees, wink wink.", reports the Mirror.

The jest had viewers divided in their opinion, with fans flocking to X, formerly Twitter, to share their thoughts on her jibe at the former Prime Minister.

One said: "Yeah Ranvir shouting at his Car ‘DO YOU BLAME YOURSELF RISHI’ is definitely going to get a response from him….apparently a journalist and presenter."

Another added: "Ranvir Singh is a gobby, offensive annoyance," and a third chimed in: "Do one Ranvir horrible woman."

But others disagreed, as one said: "Cackling at ar Ranvir SCREAMING at Rishi Sunak whether he blames himself or not for the result.

Another added: "No #lorraine or the show either today, but at least Ranvir still got a link to. # GMB." Another quipped: "Ranvir! Who just 'woke me up' SCREAMING at the top of her lungs to the OUTGOING prime minister if he blamed himself for the #Tory loss! Ranvir, you are such a little angel."

Meanwhile, the hilarious moment was reposted online accompanied by roaring laughter.

GMB's election special was rife with chaos well before this incident, as Tory MP Steve Baker found himself in a fiery exchange not with studio guest and former Chancellor George Osborne, but mistakenly so. Believing Osborne had questioned him, Baker launched into a scorching tirade yet it was host Ed Balls who had posed the query, "So the voters got it wrong? " In a mix-up that sparked mayhem on set, Steve retorted, "George, I'm not getting into an argument with you."

Confusion reigned while Ed tried to clarify it was his question, though Susanna also attempted to steer the conversation, stating "no that's Ed," yet Steve missed the correction.

"George you and I have got a lot of history," Baker went on. "You know, and if only you'd fought a better Reform campaign."

Finally pausing, Ed reiterated an apology: "Sorry about that," directing his regrets to both Osborne and Baker as he owned up to precipitating the debate with the MP.

"I have to just apologise to you and to George Osborne, it was me Ed Balls asking that question."
