Strictly Come Dancing: Jay McGuiness makes betting history with biggest ever turnaround
NOT content with simply topping the leader board with his sensational Pulp Fiction inspired Jive last night, Jay McGuiness has now made Strictly Come Dancing history, according to the bookmakers.
Jay McGuiness' Jive as made bookmaking history
After earning the highest score of the series so far and bagging the first 10 pointer of the year, bookies have now slashed the former boybander's odds to win the show with the biggest turnaround in the contest's 11 year history.
Before having his routine hailed as the "best dance ever" from judges Craig Revel-Horwood, Len Goodman, Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonoili; Jay's odds to pinch the Glitterball trophy stood at just 3/1.
Now, the singer's firmly placed as the favourite at a staggering 11/8 and zooms straight past Peter Andre who sank to fifth place on the leader board last night.
A William Hill spokesman said: "If the final was tomorrow Jay would win at a canter, the contestants have to hope he has peaked early."
Jay's now the firm favourite to win the whole contest
Fellow chart-topping star Peter now trails behind in second place at 7/2, while Helen George and Katie Derham are both neck-in-neck for third place with 7/1.
Dressed as John Travolta and Uma Thurman's sexually charged characters from the iconic Quentin Tarantino cult classic Pulp Fiction, Jay and his partner Alioni Villani astonished both the panel and viewers with their Jive to a medley of Misirlou/You Never Can Tell.
His Jive was hailed as the 'best dance ever' by the judges
Jay's score of 37 put him straight at the top of the leader board by a whole five points ahead of his nearest rivals EastEnders star Kellie Bright and Call The Midwife actress Helen George.
Carol Kirkwood found herself at the bottom of the pile again this week with a dismal 17 points for her dreary Quick Step to I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out Of My Hair.
The Wanted singer topped the leader board by five points
Last week saw Olympic athlete Iwan Thomas become the first celebrity to be given the boot from the ballroom while another will follow him out of the door tonight.
Strictly Come Dancing continues this evening at 7.15pm on BBC One.
