Emmerdale John Sugden's true identity 'rumbled' and he's set to cause trouble for Victoria

Emmerdale is set to introduce a new member to the Sugden family which will cause havoc for long-standing character Victoria.

Heading over to X formerly known as Twitter on Wednesday (July 3), Emmerdale's official account announced the major news, with a picture of the new star. The message read "Say hello to Oliver Farnworth who is set to portray John Sugden! Read more about what his arrival in the village will entail."

It then provided fans with further details on the new village entree and how he will fit into the famous Sufgden family. But fans online already had quite a lot to say regarding John Sugden.

In the comment section below, one Emmerdale watcher said: "Praying that he’s not a retconned long lost child of Jack and they’ve thought of another way to tie him in. The way they mention 1972 gives me hope that perhaps they’ve gone further back and Jacob Sugden had another family, with John being his grandson and Victoria’s cousin."

Another fan also said: "I wish him every success in his new role...As A lifelong Emmerdale fan, I'm certainly not going to write him off, regardless of whether he plays a goodie or a baddie. Emmerdale thrives on drama, after all, it is a 'drama' serial.

While a third mentioned:"Loads of ways he could fit in. One interesting possibility would be if he was the son of Jackie Sugden which would make him Victoria’s older nephew."

Continuing the legacy of the dynasty that was first introduced in the show's earlier episodes back in 1972, the character of John Sugden will be brought to life by Oliver Farnworth. His arrival is expected to cause quite a stir for Victoria Sugden, portrayed by Isabel Hodgins, who is one of the few remaining members of the family in the village.

John, described as brooding and mysterious by Emmerdale writers, is said to be harbouring several family secrets.

His introduction promises to bring new challenges and interesting dynamics, as he becomes deeply intertwined with the complex history of the Sugden family. Furthermore, he's set to catch the attention of an unsuspecting villager, adding another layer of intrigue to his entrance.

Oliver, who is slated to make his first appearance on the show in August, is best known for his roles in Coronation Street, Hollyoaks, and the theatre tour of The Girl on the Train.

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
