BBC Breakfast misspell 'chilly' during weather report

BBC Breakfast fans spotted a glaring blunder during Carol Kirkwood's weather report. The 62-year-old joined presenters Jon Kay and Sally Nugent as she issued the latest forecast updates on Tuesday's instalment (June 11) of the flagship programme.

Unfortunately, the Scottish star didn't have good news for viewers as she revealed that temperatures across the country are far from close to heating up.

Carol explained: "It's a chilly start to the day. Temperatures, last night, fell as low as three degrees in some parts and today is going to be a day of sunshine and showers, with more cloud building through the day. But temperature wise, it's still cool for June."

The meteorologist referenced the green screen next to her which featured short phrases such as "chilly start", "sunshine and a few showers" and "cool for June."

But viewers noticed that chilly had been spelt with three L's instead of two as they took to social media to point out the mistake.

One wrote: "Is 'chillly' chillier than 'chilly'?" Another declared: "@BBCBreakfast @bbcweather Chilly only has two “L”s." Mocking the mistake, a third added: "VERY CHILLLY start."

"Chillly lol," a fourth commented. It appears the spelling error couldn't be changed as it was present on all of Carol's bulletins throughout the programme.

It comes after Carol swapped the BBC Breakfast studio in Salford for a different location to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The weather reporter hosted live from the London site of the HMS Belfast - one of the first warships to arrive at the Normandy beaches.

In an emotional post shared on X, Carol explained that she was standing in front of "one of only three remaining vessels from the bombardment fleet which supported the Normandy landings on this day 80 years ago".

In a string of photos, she displayed a sunrise over Tower Bridge, while she also shared her trip to Portsmouth the previous day, where she'd visited a poignant pier the troops would have travelled to in order to begin their route to war.

Carol revealed that at the spot of HMS Belfast on Thursday (June 6), there was a two-minute long simulated firing of the guns at 1pm for remembrance.
