Netflix is gearing up for the return of the dystopian hit series Black Mirror, which has confirmed a whopping line-up of 19 stellar actors for its seventh season.

The highly-anticipated new season sees the inclusion of star power such as Awkwafina, Issa Rae, and Peter Capaldi alongside a host of other talents like Milanka Brooks, Emma Corrin and Patsy Ferran. Big names Paul Giamatti, Lewis Gribben, and Osy Ikhile will join Rashida Jones on the screen.

The cast further boasts the likes of Siena Kelly, Billy Magnussen, Rosy McEwen, Cristin Milioti, Chris O'Dowd and Paul G Raymond. They'll be sharing the limelight with Tracee Ellis Ross, Jimmi Simpson and Harriet Walker, although their specific roles remain under wraps for now.

Black Mirror is known for its thought-provoking content, often set in chilling near-future landscapes and typically featuring eyebrow-raising technology.

With fans abuzz on Reddit following the announcement, reactions were mixed. An unhappy fan remarked: "Black Mirror was better with non famous actors I can't explain why", reports the Daily Star.

To which another replied: "Because it doesn't need to rely on names to get people to watch. It's all about the story and the setting."

"Interesting how the newer seasons seem to rely a lot on big name actors and actresses in headlines just to hype us up for episodes," observed another cynical Reddit user.

While yet another Reddit critic was blunt in their opinion: "It's gonna suck. Put no name people in it and make episodes intriguing again, not this s**t with demons and pop stars."

A fifth commented: "Honestly, they're better off paying for good writing rather than expensive actors. The casting is always solid but it doesn't need famous faces. All that does is make the show expensive. Give us breakout stars please."

However, not all shared this sentiment as another viewer defended the choices: "Wow... It's really sad to see so many bitter, closed-minded 'fans' hating on S7 before seeing even 1 second of story. A story needs what it needs, and they definitely didn't choose these actors solely for their star power."

The Charlie Brooker-created series initially graced our screens on Channel 4 from 2011 to 2014, before making the leap to Netflix in 2016.

Black Mirror season seven airs on Netflix in 2025.
