True crime docuseries will expose writer who scammed her way onto Grey’s Anatomy

Peacock has released a riveting first look at a new documentary series exposing one of Grey's Anatomy's biggest scandals.

Anatomy of Lies: Official trailer

Upcoming docuseries Anatomy of Lies will lift the lid on one of the most unbelievable stories behind one of the biggest shows in America, Grey’s Anatomy.

The popular medical drama starring Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey is still ongoing, with a 21st season set for release in just a few days.

However, the ABC franchise was rocked just a couple of years ago when writer and executive producer Elisabeth Finch was accused of lying about her medical history, including a cancer diagnosis.

After working on the likes of True Blood, No Ordinary Family and The Vampire Diaries, her supposedly traumatic health battles formed the basis of a 2019 episode of Grey’s, Silent All These Years.

Elisabeth even made a cameo as a nurse in the now-infamous episode.

But, in March 2022, she was placed on administrative leave during an HR investigation into her claims and later admitted to never having any form of cancer in a December 2022 Ankler article.

Now, Peacock’s three-part series promises to chronicle her “rise and fall” in the TV industry; Elisabeth’s "jaw-dropping lies fooled Hollywood for years, and became fodder for many high-profile episodes of Grey's", a synopsis reads.

"Her final mark was trauma survivor Jennifer Beyer, who entrusted Finch with her deepest secrets.

“But as Beyer uncovers the web of lies that deceived Hollywood for years, she faces a daunting challenge: Can she reclaim the narrative from a convincing storyteller who showed no signs of stopping?"

The trailer promises hard-hitting interviews and a stunning exposé of one of the most shocking behind-the-scenes stories in Hollywood history.

In addition to her false diagnosis of a rare form of bone cancer, Elisabeth also claimed to have lost a kidney and had an abortion during chemotherapy.

Her fabricated medical history first caught the attention of the public in Vanity Fair’s explosive piece in 2022, which prompted Disney’s investigation.

When she reportedly refused to provide any medical documents to prove her story she was put on administrative leave and later resigned from Grey’s Anatomy.

"I told a lie when I was 34 years old and it was the biggest mistake of my life," she said in the Ankler interview.

"It just got bigger and bigger and bigger and got buried deeper and deeper inside me."

Peacock can currently be accessed with a Sky TV package or a Now Entertainment subscription, so the documentary should also be available to UK viewers on the same day.

Anatomy of Lies will be released on Tuesday, October 15 on Peacock. Grey's Anatomy is available to stream on Disney+.
