BBC The One Show viewers distracted as they confuse guest for A-list Hollywood star

The One Show viewers found it hard to focus this evening, as best-selling author Harlan Coben bore a striking resemblance to a Hollywood A-lister.

Author Harlan Coben discusses writing about serial killers

Tonight on BBC's The One Show, best-selling author Harlan Coben joined Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse on the green sofa to discuss his popular thrillers, many of which have been made into television shows. However, fans found it hard to focus, as they admitted Harlan looked eerily similar to a certain A-list celeb.

Viewers took to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, to point out his likeness to Hollywood star Stanley Tucci. The esteemed American actor is best known for his roles in films like The Devil Wears Prada, The Lovely Bones and The Hunger Games.

"I thought this guy was Stanley Tucci," one viewer tweeted in reaction to his interview. While another person confessed they were also distracted by the similarity, joking: " Pound shop Stanley Tucci on #TheOneShow." (sic)

Other fans even felt Coben looked like a mix of Tucci and another celeb, with one person commenting: "#TheOneShow @HarlanCoben if @Sethrogen and #StanleyTucci had a love child. #HarlanCoben." (sic)

"Harlen looks like a mix of Steve Martin and Stanley Tucci," one more person declared. While others marvelled at the author's charisma, with one person remarking: "Was Harlan Coben an actor before? He can talk."

Speaking about his Myron Bolitar series of thrillers, Coben described the challenge of casting a well-known actor in the leading role.

He said: "The problem is he's been with me since 1995 - I've been writing him before many of you were born!

"No actor ever does it for me," he admitted, before quipping that he'd easily passed up huge actors like Adam Sandler, George Clooney and Jim Carrey.

"Everyone is a no from me so I just have to let go eventually," he admitted. "But it's one of the reasons why I've made a lot of shows here in England.

"But I'm a little bit more nervous about it... I know I won't like it. Is that fair to say?"

Elsewhere in the interview, Coben also talked about the overall decline in serial killers due to how much they have been studied over the years.

"It's really hard to not get caught!" he revealed, before discussing how he planned to put a twist on the trope.

Harlan Coben's new book Think Twice, published by Cornerstone, is available to purchase now.

The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
