Corrie: Joel is revealed to be Lauren's killer

Coronation Street fans have theorised that Dee-Dee Bailey (played by Channique Sterling-Brown) could already be aware that Joel Deering (Calum Lill) is hiding something.

After months of speculation, Joel was revealed as the person who attacked Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton). Lauren has been missing from the Cobbles since February, with police concluding she had been violently assaulted before she disappeared.

She was presumed dead and Roy Cropper (David Neilson) spent nearly two months in prison for her murder.

In a flashback aired last week, Joel forced his way into Lauren's flat and appeared to beat her with a broken chair leg.

After the assault, Joel picked up the necklace Lauren was gifted by her secret boyfriend, confirming it was him all along. Attention has now turned to Joel's partner Dee-Dee, with fans devastated over what this means for her.

Writing on Reddit, one said: "Dee Dee is gorgeous and deserves better." Another agreed: "I am praying Joel has an evil twin. I hate this for DeeDee, she deserves someone nice."

Someone else declared: "I worry for Dee Dee if they ever do marry." In what would be a jaw-dropping twist, a fourth queried: "What if Dee Dee already knows about Joel and she’s just playing him."

Channique, 27, responded to the revelation as she appeared on Good Morning Britain alongside her on-screen partner Calum on Friday (May 31).

The actress said: "The thing is for Dee-Dee at the moment, she is absolutely none the wiser, as is the rest of Weatherfield. And she is in love with this man, and he’s in love with her as well.

"And so, I think, it is the version that is being presented that she absolutely accepts. Why would she think any differently? But obviously as is true to life, what is in the dark always comes to light. So it will be a very interesting journey."

Asked whether Dee-Dee has any suspicions about her partner, the soap star added: "Dee-Dee does not have a clue. She’s absolutely oblivious, because, why would she be suspicious? So for us it’s been such a fun journey because we’ve kinda always known where it’s going.

"And it’s going to be really great for the audience to be clued in as to who Joel really is. But how that will be revealed to Dee-Dee is yet to be seen." Later this week, after a dinner with his parents goes completely wrong, Joel drops to one knee and asks Dee-Dee to marry him. How will she respond?
