Princess Anne was spotted by royal fans yesterday after she took part in the Edinburgh Riding of the Marches. The Princess Royal joined over 200 horses and riders up the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, Scotland, on Sunday as part of the event.

The event, known as "Riding the Marches" or "Common Riding", aims to re-enact a tradition that is believed to date back to at least the 16th century when mounted representatives of Scotland's cities and towns conducted annual inspections of their borders. The princess was all smiles at the event, which was watched by hundreds, if not thousands, of spectators.

The aim of the event continues to be to celebrate civic pride, heritage and horsemanship.

Despite being a royal, Princess Anne seemed to go undercover as she rode alongside a number of other people.

The senior royal, 75, looked delighted to be taking part in the event, with royal fans noticing her among the other riders and expressing their delight online.

On X, one fan wrote: “Beautiful photo. Princess Anne still in the saddle. Takes after her mum. She is always happy and in her element when around horses .”

Another said: “Oh wow - thats the Anne we know and love.”
