Meghan Markle’s pal hits back after ‘tumultuous criticism’
A friend of the Duchess of Sussex has opened up about the criticism she faces.
Meghan Markle’s Hollywood pal has hit back at critics and addressed the “tumultuous criticism” she has received. The Duchess of Sussex has branched out into a number of ventures since stepping down as a working member of the Royal Family in 2020.
One of those ventures – a cooking show titled With Love, Meghan – aired on Netflix last year. The streamer released two seasons of the cookery show, along with a Christmas special. But the series was mostly savaged by critics and further plummeted in ratings.
One review in The Guardian for the first season described it as a "gormless lifestyle filler" and "so pointless it might be the Sussexes' last TV show", while The Telegraph gave it two stars and branded it "insane" and an "exercise in narcissism".
America's outlets did not go easy on the duchess either, with Hollywood bible Variety dubbing it a "Montecito ego trip not worth taking" and the Hollywood Reporter saying the show "lacks a key ingredient".
Now, one of Meghan’s Hollywood pals, who’s also appeared in the show, has spoken about the show’s criticism.
Fashion designer and TV personality Tan France, who featured in Season 2 of Meghan’s show, spoke on Channel 5’s Vanessa.
He said of the criticism: “Being from the UK, but living in the US, I think I understand both equally well. It was never going to be for the Brits.
“The Brits are too cynical, they don't care about the whimsy, they're too busy getting on with real life.”
He added: “Life's hard in England, they haven't got time to make a charcuterie board pretty. There's no reason.”
Regarding giving fashion advice to his royal pal, the designer revealed: “Do you know what? She dresses wicked. She doesn't need my advice.
“She's a really chic dresser. I like the way she dresses a lot.
“I won't give advice unless somebody asks, but even if she asks, there's nothing I could say. She usually looks fab.”
