A friend of Prince William's is urging Prince Harry to complete one simple and honest task during his forthcoming tour of Columbia with Meghan Markle.

The source is requesting Harry apologise for taking cocaine as a young man, as stated in his bombshell memoir, Spare, released in January 2023.

William's pal told the Daily Beast: "Harry admitted to doing coke in his book [Spare]. His trip to Colombia should include an admission that the country has been destroyed by narco-terrorists servicing wealthy drug users in the West, and he should stand up and apologize for his own participation in that disgusting trade. That would be a helpful intervention."

In a shocking admission, the Duke of Sussex wrote by the summer of 2002 when he was 17-years-old, he had "taken cocaine" during a shooting weekend and "a few more lines" on other occasions.

In the book Spare, Harry writes: "It wasn’t very fun, and it didn’t make me feel especially happy as seemed to happen to others, but it did make me feel different, and that was my main objective. To feel. To be different.

"I was a 17-year-old willing to try almost anything that would alter the pre-established order."

Harry and Meghan will be travelling to Colombia's capital, Bogota, and the coastal areas this summer. It comes after the Duke and Duchess received an invite from the country’s vice president Francia Marquez who has plans for the couple to "experience the rich heritage of Colombia".

Details of the couple’s Colombian itinerary have not been released by the Archewell Foundation, their charitable body, but the vice president said they would "engage in several activities" related to safeguarding young people online and in physical spaces.

The Sussexes’ trip to Colombia will be their second official tour of the year after they visited Nigeria in May taking part in a range of activities over three days.

Drug-related crime has made the South American country one of the most dangerous places on earth to live, as stated in the Daily Beast. The Oxford Department of International Development states since the 1960s, Colombia has been "the epicentre of the global war on drugs".

Currently, both the UK and US governments warn tourists to "reconsider" travel to the region due to the risk of terrorism and kidnapping.

Official UK government advice states: "There is a high threat of terrorist attack globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets."

The visit to Colombia was announced despite Harry repeatedly claiming he feels the UK is too dangerous for him to visit with his family.

Meanwhile, a statement by the country’s vice president Francia Márquez read: "I am pleased to announce that Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have kindly accepted my invitation to visit our beautiful country."

This comes as for the past four years, Harry has been fighting the UK government’s decision to remove their round-the-clock police protection team. Harry has taken legal action against the government and lost, but was given the green light to appeal that decision in June.
