The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have hired Sara Latham to head up communications for them as they split households with Prince William and Kate. Meghan and Harry’s office will move to Buckingham Palace and Ms Latham will report to the Queen’s communications secretary. Until now, the Sussexes and the Cambridges have shared a team at Kensington Palace.
But the two couples have faced months of speculation over an alleged rift after Harry and Meghan announced that they were moving to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.
The split could ease any alleged tensions between the brothers and their wives as they forge their own paths in the Royal Family.
Key members of the current joint team will stay on with future king William and Kate.
Communications secretary Jason Knauf is set to become their senior adviser.
And deputy press secretary Christian Jones will be the couple’s communications secretary.
Ms Latham joins Meghan and Harry from PR firm Freuds where she “oversaw global corporate accounts with a particular emphasis on executive thought leadership and purpose-led campaigns”.
She has also previously worked for Bill Clinton in the White House as well as in UK Parliament for the late Tessa Jowell when she was culture secretary.
She worked with Barack Obama at the White House, as well as Tony Blair's 2005 election team.
In a statement released today, the royals said: “The Queen has agreed to the creation of a new Household for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, following their marriage in May last year.
“The Household, which will be created with the support of The Queen and The Prince of Wales, will be established in the spring.
“This long-planned move will ensure that permanent support arrangements for The Duke and Duchess’s work are in place as they start their family and move to their official residence at Frogmore Cottage.”
It comes after a string of Meghan’s staff resigned, with claims she has been nicknamed “Duchess Difficult”.
The 37-year-old’s personal assistant Melissa Touabti quit last year after reportedly being reduced to tears over Meghan’s demands.
Soon after, top aide Samantha Cohen resigned after 17 years working for the royals.
Meghan’s female bodyguard was next to quit and now her private secretary Amy Pickerill is stepping down.
