Amy Dowden says that she has been "dreaming of this day" as she returns to Strictly Come Dancing. The Welsh dancer will be competing in her eighth series following her battle with breast cancer.

The 33-year old was forced to pull of the 2023 series following her cancer diagnosis. However, after rounds of chemotherapy she was informed by doctors that she's been given the "all clear", but still has to have regular check-ups.

Posting on her Instagram story, she is seen sitting in a car taking a selfie and penned: "I can't believe the day has finally arrived! Since Spring 2023 I have been dreaming of this day.

"Thinking and sometimes doubting that it would even happen with so many set backs along the way. I didn't sleep last night with nerves and excitement.

"I had a good cry this morning and going to soak up every moment of this series which I am forever grateful for. The Strictly family couldn't have been more supportive and loving this past year and I truly hope to make you proud this year."

It was recently announced that Amy would be returning as a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing this year. Having taken last year off due to her cancer battle, Amy said she is "happy and grateful" to be back.

Amy was first diagnosed with aggressive stage three cancer in May last year and was forced to pull out of the 2023 series of Strictly Come Dancing.

She recieved multiple rounds of chemotherapy during her cancer treatment which resulted in her shaving her hair. A few months ago, she was informed that she no longer has cancer in her body.

In previous years, Amy has taken to the dancefloor with the likes of Dan Walker, JJ Chalmers, Tom Fletcher and James Bye. She is the first Welsh professional to take part in Strictly.

Amy's new update comes after it was announced that a BBC film has been made documenting her battle with breast cancer. The documentary covers 15 months of Amy's journey from her initial diagnosis to getting the all clear.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One later this year.
