Celebrity chef – and Oasis superfan – Tom Kerridge has told how one of the band’s star, Liam Gallagher, visited his restaurant but never let his public image slip for a minute. Bizarrely, Tom recalls, Liam kept his cagoule throughout the meal.

“He's a very funny character,” Tom told Kate Thornton on her White Wine Question Time podcast. “He's very full-on. He came to eat one day in the Hand and Flowers, and not once did he never stop being Liam Gallagher.”

A clearly delighted Tom added: “He spent the whole lunch with his cagoule on, zipped up to the top. He was drinking espresso martinis right, from the start, all the way through to the end. And when he finished his lunch, he moon-walked into the kitchen to thank to thank all the chefs.”

Tom had picked up his first Michelin star just a year after opening of his Buckinghamshire gastropub with his wife in 2005, but it’s because of his love of Oasis that Tom fulfilled one of his proudest achievements, winning Celebrity Mastermind.

“Oasis was my specialist subject,” he says. “Two Michelin stars, the first first pub in the world to ever do it, and Celebrity Mastermind winner!

He proudly added:“I also got an honorary doctorate in philosophy the same week as well. My mum was so proud. Who needs GCSEs when you can win Celebrity Mastermind?” As the icing on the cake, Tom received a terse, but heartfelt message of congratulations from Liam after his win. “He just said ‘said top skills’,” Tom said.

Tom says he inherited his early music taste from his parents, listening to the Beatles and Rolling Stones records that he found stacked next to the turntable. From there, it’s just a short step to the Oasis records he revered as a teenager.

He says he’s managed to get a private box for one of the dates on the upcoming oasis tour, and he’s going to treat a bunch of his pals to seats.
