Amanda Holden has always been about the bold fashion choices, but this week her style nearly proved her undoing when a shiny pair of heels led to her falling flat on her face in the middle of a busy road. The 53-year-old stressed on her Heart radio show that she had just “fallen over,” and she wasn’t quite old enough to “have a fall.”

Amanda said she had just finished recording a voice-over, and was leaving the recording studio: “I came outside and I was wearing shoes that are patent leather. Every now and then you catch them, they sort of stick.

“I’ve tripped a number of times in these shoes, just a little sort of hiccup, but I was crossing the road and a car went past, and I fell in the middle of the road.” Amanda’s shoes, which had caused the potentially-fatal incident, flew off while she was left with cuts on both her knees.

Two kindly young men came to her aid, but Amanda waved them off and insisted that she was fine: "Then I had to go to quite an important meeting with a bleeding and scabby knee,” she added.

She made light of the accident, but if another car had been coming along at that exact moment, there could have been serious consequences, Amanda admits: “It made me think because I know that could have been potentially terrible.”

In order to get over the trauma, she ended up scrapping the detox she was supposed to be on this week, and went for a lunchtime glass of Champagne with showbiz pal Alan Carr.

It’s by no means the worst tumble Amanda’s taken in recent years. She broke her leg in two places while testing her skills on a Total Wipeout-style inflatable assault course back in 2019.

While playing with her seven year old daughter Hollie, the breakfast show co-host broke her fibula in two places: "There were these three inflatable stepping stones in the middle of the sea and everyone else was running across it and I thought 'Oh I could do that, if kids can do it I can do it' and I did it and I made it. "

But then disaster struck: "I was showing off… I made it across to the other side and then my leg slipped, because obviously its wet. My leg slipped and it went the other way and I felt it break and I fell in to the sea and I had to swim back to the shore one-legged.”

Her husband, record producer Chris Hughes, quickly rushed her to hospital, where she had a metal plate fitted into her leg. The shy and retiring BGT judge was of course quick to share pictures of her bandaged leg with her two million followers on Instagram.
