Argentina fans celebrate victory over Mexico at World Cup
It was another entertaining day at the 2022 World Cup, with plenty of thrills and spills in four intriguing matches. Costa Rica caused a shock to kick the day off by beating Japan 1-0, with Keysher Fuller's late goal causing scenes of wild celebrations among their fans.
There was a further surprise next as Morocco stunned Belgium with a well-deserved 2-0 victory, with Romain Saiss and Zakaria Aboukhlal goals doing the damage and heaping the pressure on a dreadful Belgian side.
Canada's World Cup dream came to an end after their 4-1 defeat to Croatia saw them knocked out of the tournament. Alphonso Davies had opened the scoring within just 70 seconds to give them the perfect start. But an Andrej Kramaric double and further strikes from Marko Livaja and Lovro Majer gave an impressive Croatia all three points.
Finally, in the heavyweight clash of the day, Spain and Germany played out an entertaining 1-1 draw. Alvaro Morata had given La Roja the lead, but Niclas Fullkrug replied for the Germans, who still have a good chance of qualification despite not picking up a win yet.
Sunday's World Cup results:
Japan 0-1 Costa Rica
Belgium 0-2 Morocco
Croatia 4-1 Canada
Spain 1-1 Germany
Here is a look back at all the action as it happened...

Still enjoying four matches per day? Good, because so are we, and tomorrow promises to be another humdinger.
At 10am Cameroon and Serbia face off in Group E, with both sides looking for their first points after tasting defeat last week.
Then at 1pm attention switches to Group H, with South Korea taking on Ghana.
At 4pm hot favourites Brazil are back in action against Switzerland, before the day finishes with Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal facing Uruguay in an intriguing-looking encounter.
This result doesn't kill Germany completely, but it would leave them with a lot to do on the last match day.
Hansi Flick's side would need to beat Costa Rica, pray that Spain beat Japan and ensure their goal difference is better than both Costa Rica's and Japan's.
Got that? Good.
15 minutes to go, and Musiala can only blast straight at Simon.
First, it's Germany fans going wild. Then it's the Spanish support who lap it up when Antonio Rudiger's powerful header is chalked off by VAR as he just strayed offside.
Given the huge amount of talent on display, this has the makings of a classic.
Germany need to win, especially in the wake of Japan's defeat to Costa Rica earlier today.
They beat Spain 6-0 last time they met in November 2020, in the Nations League, with Ferran Torres bagging a hat-trick. How they'd love a similar result today...
Here we go. Spain in their traditional all-red strip, and Germany with their (somewhat controversial) white with a black stripe (not a fan, personally).
It's perhaps the most highly anticipated match of the tournament so far. And here are the full starting 11s for both Spain and Germany ahead of their mouthwatering encounter.
That's full-time, and it ends up being a very impressive win for Croatia, who have put themselves in a very strong position to qualify.
It's the end of the road for Canada, but they can be proud of their efforts, and can look forward to being in a better position when they join-host the tournament in four years.
Kramaric has run riot for Croatia tonight, and he has grabbed his second with a superb finish from inside the box after selling his defender with a dummy.
Canada look set to join Qatar as one of the two teams eliminated.
Croatia have dominated the last ten minutes or so, and deservedly equalise as Kramaric runs onto a cute through ball and tucks a beautiful finish into the far corner.
Belgium fans have been filmed ripping up the streets of Brussels in anger after the dismal defeat to Morocco.
The violent riots led to a car being smashed and flipped over and fireworks going off after Roberto Martinez's side slipped down Group F with another poor performance.
Wow. This one counts. Unreal as Morocco open the scoring to rock Belgium, with Abdelhamid Sabiri producing the goods. The stadium just got significantly louder...
The noise. The noiiiiiiiseeee. It's defeaning in here as Morocco think they strike, with Hakim Ziyech's free kick sailing all the way in. However, it's now been chalked off due to VAR. Booooo
Roman Saiss is in an offside position as Ziyech's inswinging delivery arrives. He doesn't touch the ball but is adjudged to be in Courtois' line of sight.
Express Sport's Jack Otway is in position at Belgium vs Morocco:
When it comes to the battle of fans inside the ground, there's no contest. Morocco fans are making one almighty noise, whistling Belgium players in the early stages. They also outsang their opponents when it comes to the national anthem, too...
England face Wales on Tuesday, and Luke Shaw has admitted the clip of Wales players celebrating the Three Lions' embarrassing Euro 2016 exit to Iceland is still fresh in the mind.
Shaw and co can knock Wales out of the World Cup in their clash, and he has claimed England can use the video as motivation.
He said: "Does it give us any more motivation [the Wales video]? I think you could say that. But our motivation in itself has to be at its highest level. We are at the World Cup. We have great aims for what we want to achieve.
“We have to have the maximum motivation at every game. I don’t think there’s any more motivation than what we have already. Of course, [the video] wasn’t nice. But I don’t want to dwell too much on it.
"I want to focus on what we do on the pitch. We can say things in interviews, but I’d rather do our talking on the pitch rather than off it.”
Wowww. Keysher Fuller, who still plays his club football in Costa Rica, has fired his nation ahead with a curling effort.
With what has been Costa Rica's first attack of the whole tournament, Fuller bends an effort past Shuichi Gonda.
The Japan goalkeeper may be disappointed after getting a hand on the strike.
The giant killers are at risk of being killed!
Against all odds, Costa Rica take the lead!!
It's taken 170 minutes of World Cup action but the South Americans have finally scored with their first shot on target! \ud83d\ude4c\ud83c\udde8\ud83c\uddf7
Argentina's 2-0 win against Mexico on Saturday night was one of the most memorable games of the 2022 World Cup yet.
Not just because of the high-stakes action on the pitch, but because of the wild support from both sets of fans around the 80,000-capacity Lusail Stadium.
But the occasion was slightly marred by violence among Argentines and Mexicans during the tense clash.
Chants of 'f**k Messi' from Mexico's fans reportedly led to scraps breaking out, and minor injuries suffered.
Iran manager Carlos Quieroz has attacked BBC pundit Jurgen Klinsmann on social media over his comments about their 2-0 win against Wales.
Klinsmann mentioned how Quieroz has 'failed' in other roles and accused Iran of working the referee and officials to help secure victory.
In response, the Iran boss has fired back with something of a letter...
It read: "Dear Jurgen. You took the initiative to call me Carlos, so I believe it is proper to call you Jurgen. Right? Even not knowing me personally, you question my character with a typical prejudiced judgment of superiority.
"No matter how much I can respect what you did inside the pitch, those remarks about Iran Culture, Iran National Team and my Players are a disgrace to Football. Nobody can hurt our integrity if it is not at our level, of course.
"Even saying so, we would like to invite you as our guest, to come to our National Team Camp, socialize with Iran players and learn from them about the Country, the people of Iran, the poets and art, the algebra, all the millennial Persian culture… And also listen from our players how much they love and respect Football.
"As American/German, we understand your no support. No problem."
Hello and welcome to another day of World Cup action, with plenty to be decided in Groups E and F at the end of week one!
Stay tuned for regular LIVE updates throughout your Sunday...
