Man Utd: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘we need to strengthen the squad’
Manchester United have a ‘very slim’ chance of signing RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano before the transfer window shuts on October 5, reports say. The France international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the wake of his fine Champions League performances last term. But with the Red Devils currently focusing on Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, any deal looks unlikely.

Other publications have suggested the Red Devils will move for Upamecano in 2021, with the 21-year-old currently not a priority at a time where they’re chasing Dortmund star Sancho.
And it’s added that United could end up keeping Smalling at the club, despite Roma pressing to sign the England international following a successful loan spell at the Stadio Olimpico.
That has not been ruled out for the upcoming campaign over at Old Trafford and Smalling could act as foil for Lindelof, Maguire, Bailly, Mengi and Tuanzebe next term.
Jones is likely to leave, though, having struggled for consistency and fitness ever since his move from Blackburn Rovers back in 2012.
And United are currently looking for a buyer for Rojo, who failed to impress during a brief spell at Estudiantes in Argentina last term.
Meanwhile, ESPN pundit Steve Nicol recently urged United to seal the signing of Upamecano - who he feels can be the club's very own Virgil van Dijk.
“Why are Manchester United waiting?” he asked. “I mean, seriously?
“If they’re talking about going after Jadon Sancho for £100million, why aren’t they saying ‘okay, we’re not sure about this, let’s go and buy a centre-back who absolutely 100 per-cent is going to be your leader at the back?
“He’s going to be probably one of your better players, he’s going to be your captain eventually, and he’s going to be Mr Man United. This guy is absolutely the next greatest thing.
“He’s 21 years of age and has already shown that as far as playing centre-back he’s as good as anyone else out there.
