Man Utd: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘we need to strengthen the squad’
Manchester United have contacted the agents of Arsenal transfer target Gabriel Magalhaes, it has been claimed. However, despite that late attempt, the Red Devils are poised to miss out. Arsenal and Napoli are frontrunners in the race to sign the 22-year-old, who impressed for Lille in Ligue 1 last season.
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eager to improve his defence, despite Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire forming an impressive partnership.
The Red Devils manager also has Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe, Teden Mengi and Chris Smalling to call upon over at Old Trafford.
But Solskjaer wants another centre-back signed regardless, with the Norwegian determined for his side to challenge Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title next season.
And journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed United have made late contact with Gabriel’s agents.
However, a move to Napoli or Arsenal is in the offing for the youngster - rather than a move to Old Trafford.

United, at present, have been focusing all their efforts on securing a blockbuster deal for Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho.
But former Chelsea boss Ruud Gullit feels the Red Devils should strengthen at the back - and has endorsed a move for RB Leipzig powerhouse Dayot Upamecano.
He said: "[What] Was the first thing [Jurgen] Klopp did with Liverpool?
"He bought a good defence. He bought a goalkeeper and good defenders because everything starts there.
"And I think Man United should start there as well.
