Some Manchester United staff members think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to drop David De Gea, reports say. The Spain international has struggled for consistency this season, making a series of costly errors. And, in Sergio Romero, Red Devils personnel feel they have a brilliant deputy ready to step up.
De Gea started to wane at the end of last season, making mistakes against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona as the club missed out on the Premier League top four.
And his erratic displays have continued this term, with the Spain international making errors against Arsenal, Watford, Everton and Tottenham.
United have Romero waiting in the wings and the Argentine is expected to start when they face Norwich City in their FA Cup quarter-final showdown on Saturday night.
And The Athletic say some within the club feel it’s time for Solskjaer to make a change between the sticks.
They’re said to feel Romero has been the better performer over the last 18 months. He’s impressively kept 38 clean sheets from 58 appearances in the five years since his arrival.
Some want to see him given a chance in the Premier League ‘as a jolt for De Gea’.

Meanwhile, former Red Devils star Mark Bosnich recently opened up on De Gea’s struggles at Old Trafford.
And he said: "He's had a season which had been full of mistakes that he hasn't made on a consistent basis in the past.
"In terms of the mistake against Tottenham, the most important thing from a technical point of view is there is something wrong when he sets for shots.
"As a goalkeeper, if you set for shots and your feet are outside the width of your shoulders, you're going to have problems because the natural reaction then is to go backwards when a shot is hit quite hard.
"You've got no room to manoeuvre your feet and if you start going backwards as a goalkeeper and the ball hits you, invariably it's going to go in the back of the goal. That's something they definitely need to work on.
"Obviously they've got Henderson who is playing so well at Sheffield United aswell, and Gary is right in saying it has been more than a blip this season."
United boss Solskjaer recently backed De Gea to turn his form around - insisting the 29-year-old was still the best goalkeeper in the world.
Speaking after the Spaniard’s mistake against Spurs, he said: "I don't think it is a bad run when you concede two goals in seven games, which included matches against Man City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Everton. Everton was a freak goal.
"On Friday he might have saved it, he might not.
“But he makes great saves for us. He wins games for us. I still think he is best goalkeeper in the world."
