Juan Mata reveals what he told Young before Juventus goal
The Spaniard’s deal at Old Trafford is over at the end of the season, meaning he would be a free agent.
Earlier this week reports suggested that Mata had no idea whether or not he will be offered an extended stay at Old Trafford with United yet to issue any form of offer.
The 30-year-old has been at United for four years since joining from Chelsea in 2014
He is believed to be keen to remain at Old Trafford and ESPN FC now report that contract talks have opened.
United had triggered a 12-month extension earlier in 2018 but with his contract running down, he can talk to clubs overseas about pre-contract agreements for a free transfer in the summer as of January 1 if a new deal is not sorted.
Mata has shone for Manchester United in recent weeks despite failing to tie down a regular starting spot under Jose Mourinho.
The Spanish international scored United’s equaliser against Juventus last week and has netted some crucial goals during his time with the Red Devils.
Radio host Adrian Durham believes though that Mata will return to London with Arsenal.

Presenting on talkSPORT alongside Jason Cundy recently, Durham said: “I thought we were going to do a Juan Mata love-in right.
“I thought we were doing an appreciation hour for Juan Mata. After I said this, just a couple of minutes ago, just had a message going; ‘He’s going to Arsenal on a free’.
“We can’t do this anymore, if he’s going to Arsenal. We all love him now, but who is going to love him when he goes to Arsenal?
“He’s going to be going to Arsenal on a free! He was with [Unai] Emery on a free wasn’t he, so he’s going to Arsenal on a free because he is out of contract in the summer.
