Man Utd news: Alexis Sanchez ready to leave club in January if Mourinho doesn’t play him
ALEXIS SANCHEZ will look to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window if Jose Mourinho doesn’t play him.
The Chilean joined United from Arsenal in January in a swap deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Sanchez earns a staggering £391,000-a-week at Old Trafford - making him the club’s highest earner.
But the former Gunners star has failed to make an impact in Manchester and has swiftly become a lost cause.
The forward was initially a target for Manchester City before their rivals secured the deal, with Pep Guardiola pulling out as the club were not prepared to reach Arsenal’s £40million valuation at the time.
Now according to the London Evening Standard, Sanchez will seek a move away from United in January if he is still not a regular starter in the side.
The 29-year-old has struggled to settle in Manchester and fit in with his teammates.
Offloading Sanchez may prove difficult for United given his astronomical wages.
The only club likely to be able to comfortably afford his current payslip would be Paris Saint-Germain.
Even then, it’s hard to see the Ligue 1 champions forking out for his signature when they already have Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Edinson Cavani on their books.
Out of those three, likeliest to leave is Neymar who is supposedly a target for Real Madrid as Florentino Perez looks to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.
As for Sanchez, he failed to impress in a recent stint through the middle as a striker in Romelu Lukaku’s absence.
Anthony Martial has slowly become Mourinho’s main threat going forward and the Frenchman looks set to extend his contract.
Last month’s dramatic injury-time winner against Newcastle looked to be the turning point in Sanchez’s United career.
But things have never really got better from there and it remains his only goal of the season.
The upcoming months will prove decisive for his future. If he can find some form and become a starter then it’s likely he’ll be willing to stick things out.
But if he continues to sit on the bench, the report claims we can expect him to request an exit in the January window.
