Man Utd fans are absolutely FURIOUS at what Sanchez and Mata did on the bench against City
MANCHESTER UNITED fans are furious at Alexis Sanchez and Juan Mata after what they did on the bench during their defeat to rivals City yesterday.
Mourinho: Man United 'made mistakes' against Man City
United suffered a 3-1 defeat to their bitter rivals during the encounter at the Etihad yesterday.
Duo Sanchez and Mata were named among Jose Mourinho’s substitutes but came on in the second half.
However, their actions on the bench during the opening 45 minutes left many of the Old Trafford faithful fuming.
As the clock ticked towards the break and with United a goal down thanks to David Silva’s 12th minute opener, Sanchez and Mata were spotted smiling and laughing on the bench.
And their behaviour did not go down well with United fans.
“That Mata and Sanchez smile just shows how those players don’t give a f***,” one fan tweeted.
Another said: “Sanchez and Mata laughing on the bench... oh how the Manchester derby has changed.”
“Why are Mata and Sanchez laughing on the bench? We are losing 1-0!! Wtf!!!” a third fan wrote.
A fourth fan fumed: “WHY THE F**K ARE MATA AND SANCHEZ LAUGHING?”
“Also f**k off Mata and Sanchez laughing away on the bench,” a fifth fan wrote.
The win for City helped Pep Guardiola’s side go two points clear of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.
After Silva’s early opener, Sergio Aguero added a second soon after the break.
Mourinho's men barely threatened until substitute Romelu Lukaku came on to win a penalty which Anthony Martial duly converted just before the hour mark.
But despite City largely controlling the game, it took a late third goal by their substitute Ilkay Gundogan to ensure there could be no repeat of United's dramatic comeback to win 3-2 in the same fixture last season.
Despite the result, Mourinho praised his side’s mentality at the final whistle.
“I think we are not going to be relegated," the United boss said.
“So, when I analyse the game today, I think the difference was, you can go for stats.
“That's the way people that don't understand football analyse football, is with stats.
“I don't go for stats, I go for what I felt and I watch in the game and the game was there until minute 80-something.
“So, I consider the performance of my team a performance with mistakes. It's different than a bad performance.
“One thing is a bad performance another thing is a performance with mistakes.
“We made mistakes, we were punished by these mistakes, but the performance, the mentality, the togetherness, the belief, the fight until the end was something that we are building and we are not going to lose that because of a defeat.”
