Spain midfielder Pedri may have been disappointed to miss out on their Euro 2024 semi-final clash with France, but the youngster was delighted for his team-mate Lamine Yamal after witnessing his incredible goal. The Barcelona starlet was injured in the quarter-final against Germany, forcing him to sit on the sidelines, but it didn't stop him grabbing the spotlight with a priceless reaction to Yamal's memorable strike.

The teenager became the youngest-ever scorer in the history of the European Championship at the age of 16 years, 362 days, after pulling off a phenomenal strike from 25 yards out.

Yamal, who had already racked up three assists on Spain's route to the semi-finals, produced a moment of sheer quality when he created half a yard of space away from his marker and curled a left-footed effort, which clipped the post on its way past Mike Maignan.

And Pedri - sitting on the bench alongside the banned duo Dani Carvajal and Robin Le Normand - was clearly staggered at the quality his club and international team-mate had produced.

The 21-year-old held his hands above his head with his mouth and eyes both wide open, a look of utter disbelief, after Yamal's goal brought Spain level.

It represented quite the turnaround in a frenetic first half in Munich after Randal Kolo Muani ended France's long wait for a goal from open play after just eight minutes. But Yamal equalised on 21 minutes and Dani Olmo put them ahead after his silky footwork allowed to get a shot away, which was deflected in by Jules Kounde.

Micah Richards labelled Yamal an "outstanding young talent", while former England internationals Gary Lineker and Rio Ferdinand praised his strike in their analysis of the goal on BBC's coverage of the game.

It is merely the latest chapter in Yamal's extraordinary career after a breakthrough season at Barcelona. He made his debut at the age of 15 in a 4-0 win over Real Betis in April 2023 but only made his first start for the club in August the same year.

He has gone on to make 51 appearances for the Blaugrana, scoring seven goals, and already has 13 Spain caps to his name. His goal against France was the third in the red shirt of La Roja, having also netted against Georgia and Cyprus in World Cup qualifiers.

But few could have predicted the youngster to have such a huge impact on international football at such a young age as he aims to win the trophy at the first attempt. With Spain leading 2-1 at the time of writing, he could be a major threat if England get through to the final to face Spain.
