Leny Yoro was forced to intervene after a post from a fake account posing as the Lille forward gained traction on social media. Yoro is thought to be a summer target for Manchester United, who are reportedly making rapid progress in their pursuit of his signature.

A bid in the region of £42million has been accepted by Lille, according to Fabrizio Romano, with the French heavyweights eager to get a deal done over the coming days. They are reportedly pushing Yoro to agree personal terms with United, who are said to be offering the best financial package.

Shortly after it was reported that United had seen a bid accepted, a fake account posing as Yoro posted on X, formerly Twitter: "I don't want you @ManUtd. Leave me alone." The post gained millions of views and over 16,000 likes before Yoro stepped in to clarify that it was not him.

He urged fans to report the account in question, saying: "Fake account. You guys are psycho. Signal this account."

Yoro's future remains up in the air, with Real Madrid still confident that he will decide to join them after submitting their own offer. The Spanish giants are yet to agree a transfer fee with Lille but it has been reported that Yoro's preference would be to move to the Bernabeu.

The teenage defender played the highest number of minutes of any outfield player at Lille last season, finishing with a pass completion rate of 92 per cent. He also won 63.8 per cent of his aerial duels, with those attributes suggesting that he would fit in perfectly at United.

Even if Yoro decides to reject United in favour of Real Madrid, the Red Devils are still expected to sign at least one new defender this summer. They are reportedly closing in on a deal to land Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt, who played under Erik ten Hag during his time at Ajax.

De Ligt is said to have agreed personal terms with United, who are still trying to settle on a transfer fee in talks with Bayern Munich. Those in power at the Allianz Arena are reportedly open to doing business for the right price, but it remains to be seen if a deal can be agreed.

United have also seen two bids rebuffed for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, who was unlucky not to be named in the England squad for Euro 2024. The latest offer to be turned down by the Toffees was said to have been in the region of £45million plus another £5m in add-ons.
