Richard Osman says Pointless can be made without Alexander Armstrong
The pair were discussing the second round of the competition, which required contestants to identify Beatles songs in French, when he made the remark.
Alexander pointed out that the BBC quiz show was now available in France so that their fans in mainland Europe could play along too.
Richard then revealed: "In the French one they don't have a me but they don't have a you."
Alexander went on to inform viewers that the French equivalent of his co-host was a member of a boy band.

Richard claimed many believe Pointless could take place without Alexander
"The Croatian one has a me which is weird but they don't have a you," remarked Richard, before adding: "You couldn't do it without you."
The presenter laughed as he accepted his friend's compliment before he replied: "No, you couldn't do it without a me."
"No, no I wouldn't have said that," Richard joked. "Everyone says it but I tend to stick up for you."
Alexander was shocked by the 46-year-old's admission that many believed the show would be better without him but was pleased that he'd remained "loyal".

Richard made an awkward jibe as a contestant on Tuesday evening's show
It comes after Richard made an awkward jibe at one of the contestants for choosing a "safe" answer.
"That's so safe it wouldn't be allowed in an actual casino," he told her. "For your sake, I hope the next round's not history."
Pointless continues tomorrow at 5.15pm on BBC One.
