Jo Joyner, best known for her role as Tanya Branning in EastEnders, is set to grace our screens once again in the new Channel 5 series The Wives. She will star alongside Tamzin Outhwaite and Angela Griffin in the mystery drama, which premieres on Monday, 16 September.

The 47 year old actress has a successful career spanning TV and film, with notable roles in Netflix's Stay Close and Channel 5's Riptide among her many credits.

Her husband, Neil Madden, is also familiar with the acting world. A drama teacher by profession, Neil has appeared in popular shows such as The Bill, Lewis, Holby City and Silent Witness.

The couple met when Jo was just 25 and tied the knot in 2007 after five years of dating. They live near Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire with their twin children, Freddie and Edie, born in 2009.

Jo has been candid about her fertility struggles, revealing that she and Neil turned to IVF after three years of trying to conceive naturally. In a 2022 interview with The Mirror, she spoke about her fertility journey, expressing her immense gratitude for being able to welcome twins, reports the Mirror.

"We tried everything acupuncture, fertility diets, reflexology but nothing worked. We had tests and knew there was a slim chance anything [natural] would work and that was when we made the decision to try IVF. The twins were very longed for we were incredibly lucky because we had them with our first round of IVF," she shared with us.

Jo also disclosed her current project of writing a book about her journey through IVF and into parenthood. She revealed: "I'm writing a book actually, just for myself at the moment. It's an IVF-based thing. I've got a lot of journals from when I went through my IVF treatment, for my own sanity."

In the series The Wives, Jo portrays Beth, while Tamzin embodies Sylvie and Angela takes on the role of Natasha. Set against the backdrop of Malta, the plot unravels as the lives of these three women crumble upon discovering massive family secrets following the death of family member Annabelle Morgan.

The synopsis details: "Sylvie Morgan was happily married, Natasha Morgan was swimming in wealth, and Beth Morgan and Annabelle Morgan were thick as thieves. But this year, as they come together again, everything is different. Sylvie's now single and loving life, Natasha's hiding a desperate financial situation, Beth is barely keeping her life together and Annabelle is, well... dead."
