Now 24, the actor told the New York Post that he found working with the film star (who played Rachel Green) a struggle because of his infatuation with her.
He revealed: "I had a really, really hard time working with Aniston because I was so in love with her. I was infatuated.
"I was speechless - I'd get all bubbly and forget my lines and completely blank. It was so difficult," he added.
Cole, who now stars in a US TV adaptation of Riverdale, played Ross Geller's (David Schwimmer) son.
The hugely popular sitcom ran between 1994 and 2004 and made household names of the six leading stars.

Cole also discussed that he was aware of how popular the sitcom was while he was a part of it.
He said: "The scale was just tremendous and you felt it when you stepped on set, even as a kid.
"It was challenging because I was a small kid who was working with these sort of megalithic actors at the time. It was quite intimidating.
"But it was a really wonderful experience. They were all tremendously nice," he explained.
He added that he had not seen any of the cast, which included Matt Le Blanc (Joey), Courtney Cox (Monica), Matthew Perry (Chandler) and Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe) since his involvement ended.
Cole added: "If I saw any of them I'd say, Hello'. But it's been a while and I certainly don't look the same so it would be a hard sell.
"And if I did look the same, that'd be a little disconcerting," he joked.
