Gillian Anderson has hit back at reports focussing on her face
The sci-fi show re-launched in the US last month and finally made its UK return earlier this week, but her appearance was scrutinised in an in-depth piece in the Daily Mail.
In an article titled "Ageless Gillian and the BotoX Files", the publication provided in-depth analyses of the star's forehead, eyes, nose, cheeks, lips, chin and neck, with "expert" insight into what procedures she could have had.
Posting a photo of the piece on her Twitter account, Gillian wrote: "If it weren't so sad, this b******s would have made my day."
She provided a link to the Everyday Sexism feed, which also posted a snap of the piece with its own caption: "How we respond to the release of new work by a talented and successful woman in 2016.... #EverydaySexism."

The newspaper had suggested she had "well-administered Botox" on her forehead, a dermal filler and a chemical skin peel on her cheeks and a blepharoplasty on her eyes.
The Daily Mail wasn't the only place where cosmetic work was suggested, however, as a number of viewers raised their own questions online.
One wrote: "How much botox has been spent on the new xfiles?"
"Love the new #XFiles but Gillian please lay off the botox. Your face didn't move when you cried," another said.

However, another fan soon had their theory rubbished, writing: "FFS I was sure the reason @GillianA looked so good on #XFiles was a head full of Botox... But my theory is F****d she just wrinkled forehead?"
The show returned to a mixed reception from critics and fans but bumper ratings, with a hefty 3.35 million tuning in on Monday night.
The X-Files continues Monday at 9pm on Channel 5.
