Viewers took to social media to discuss the new episode and the show quickly became one of the top trending topics on Twitter.
While fans were divided on their opinion on the first instalment, actress Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully) took to her own profile to share a rather interesting snap.
Treating her fans to a rare behind-the-scenes snapshot, Gillian took the opportunity to make a joke at her co-star's expense.
The image featured David Duchovny (Fox Mulder) and alongside the picture she wrote: "You gotta forgive the guy his fetishes. @davidduchovny #bts #TheXFiles."

In the 'fetish' picture - which had evidently been taken on set - David can be seen awkwardly smiling for the camera as he appears to be inspecting a rather bizarre looking corpse.
The first episode of the revived show - which last aired in 2002 - saw former FBI agents Mulder and Scully reunited, as they were brought together after new evidence of alien conspiracy theories came to light.
Despite the initial excitement, the show was met with an underwhelming reception from UK viewers.
One fan slammed the show on social media and tweeted: "Oh my god, who authorised this script? This is absolutely dreadful, awful stuff. Rubbish. #XFiles."

While another agreed: "If this ends up being all a conspiracy by David Icke-esque lizards I'm going to be pretty miffed #XFiles.”
However, some fans did share some compliments about the episode.
One wrote: "Absolutely loved the x-files," and another added: "#XFiles Such an amazing first part."
The X-Files continues on Channel 5 at 9pm Monday.
