BBC Breakfast aired a damning blow to prime minister Keir Starmer as he was torn apart live on air, with Conservative MP Alex Burghart branding the Labour Party’s current standing “a complete pig’s breakfast”. In the damning interview after more than 80 Labour MPs called for Starmer to hand in his notice, Burghart spoke from Westminster via video link.

He said on the BBC show: “What we’re seeing at the moment is a complete pig’s breakfast, and it’s quite depressing actually. I know that there are political opponents, but I think this is very bad for the country. You’ve seen that the cost of borrowing is going up – this is going to be a big addition to the national debt – and we’re going to see more economic turmoil which is going to lead to people losing their jobs.”

The MP continued: “That’s why it’s very important, I think, that the Labour Party sorts this out very very quickly.

“But there’s no signs, really, that that’s going to happen. I think they may be digging in for a protracted struggle. I just think for the good of the country, this needs to be sorted out.”

Viewers were divided on social media, with one X user tweeting in response to the segment: “I don’t know how Jon Kay kept a straight face during that interview. Burghart thinks we’ve forgotten the 0 days without scandal from Tories.”

Another argued: “Keir Starmer is a pure hypocrite, he said he is a man of integrity and stands by his words. Well, it’s time for him to practice what he preaches, he must resign!”

Somebody else said: “Keep pushing in your relentless quest to get the bought and paid for Farage into power!”
