Iconic snooker show Big Break is making a return to BBC Two - with some fresh faces at the helm. The broadcaster announced that Paddy McGuinness and seven-time world snooker champion Stephen Hendry will be joining forces to front the revival of the gameshow.

The series will be reimagined for audiences and play alongside BBC Sport’s increasingly popular snooker coverage. The hosts will be joined in the studio by professional snooker players from across the globe, straight off the competition circuit, in a bid to win their contestants the cash prize. While staying true to the spirit of the original show, audiences will see three contestants and their pros battle it out in three rounds of trick shots to reach the dramatic finale.

Speaking about his new hosting duties, Paddy told BBC: “I am absolutely delighted to be a part of Big Break. It is one of those shows everyone knows and loves so to be hosting it alongside legend Stephen Hendry will be something special. Bring it on!”

Stephen added: “Big Break was a unique mix of trick shots and great entertainment and I can't wait to be back at the table and bringing this incredible show to a whole new audience and who knows, we might inspire the next generation of snooker players to get into the sport.”

However, as the news hit social media, fans had a very mixed reaction to who was presenting.

On X/Twitter, one fan fumed: "@bbcpress @BBCSport Haven’t we suffered enough? Paddy destroyed A Question of sport, why is he being brought in to do this?"

Another echoed: "@Nick_Metcalfe Fair play to McGuinness. Kills off ‘A Question of Sport’, is on the bridge as the good ship Top Gear ploughed into the iceberg, and now gets this gig. Predictable."

A third agreed: "Why keep putting Paddy McGuiness on everything? Every programme he's been on has failed."

Someone else sat on the fence, writing: "Well well well... Big Break making a return, with Hendry part of the presenting team. I would love to see Dennis as guest host also tbh. Not Paddy's biggest fan but I'm happy this is happening."

"This could be brilliant. I just hope they keep the original Big Break theme tune as it just wouldn't be the same without that," another person noted.

One more added: "Great stuff. Glad it’s not Shaun Murphy," as somebody else said: "About time, I’ve been calling for it to comeback quite a while back."
