Netflix viewers ‘absolutely loving’ Greek myth drama KAOS but have ‘one disappointment'

The brand new Netflix drama starring Jeff Goldblum as Zeus is scoring rave reviews from critics and subscribers alike, but will it prove popular enough to warrant a second season?

KAOS on Netflix is fast becoming a hit amongst subscribers after its release on Wednesday, but fans have already admitted some concerns.

Hollywood star Jeff Goldblum leads the series as the Greek god Zeus, whose reign on Mount Olympus is threatened by an ominous prophecy involving three humans.

When Orpheus (played by Killian Scott) is sent to the underworld to retrieve his deceased wife Riddy (Aurora Perrineau) they set off a chain of events that could lead to his downfall.

Season one consists of eight episodes released this Wednesday, and viewers will have to reach the end of the season to discover if the war against the gods is resolved in the first outing.

Whether or not the finale has a satisfying conclusion or a cliffhanger leading to future installments, viewers are already worried the show could be one-and-done given Netflix’s track record of cancelling fan-favourite shows.

One viewer recently took to Reddit after binge-watching the entire series in 24 hours, admitting they were “disappointed” it was released by Netflix and not a more reliable streaming platform.

“Don’t let me down Netflix!” their post began.

“I can’t think of the last time I watched a show on Netflix that excited me so much," they continued.

“Usually, I feel like 'modern remakes' of old stories fall flat. The writers or wardrobe or whatever try so hard to 'reimagine' the story that it takes away from the overall production or message. But this was SOOO perfect.

They went on to confess: “My only disappointment is that Netflix made it. And I think we all know what Netflix does to awesome shows.

“But my fingers are doubly crossed this time that they continue with this story. This was something special. I just can’t get over how well it was done.”

Viewers were also expressing similar concerns on X (formerly Twitter) after tuning in to the epic mythological reimagining.

“So, Kaos is a fun bit of mythological magical realism. Reminds me of the 90s Romeo + Juliet,” one posted.

“But considering nothing is resolved in the end and it's just a giant pile of Netflix-typical season two teasers, I can't recommend it yet. Could still get canceled.”

And another exclaimed: “F*** KAOS IS SO GOOD I CANT WAIT FOR NETFLIX TO CANCEL IT AFTER THE FIRST SEASON.”

It’s still a little early to determine how popular KAOS will be among Netflix subscribers, but hopefully enough drama fans will tune in for these viewers to get their wish for a second season.

KAOS is available to stream on Netflix.
