ITV The Chase players accused of ‘cheating’ as viewers fume at never-before-seen technique

ITV viewers took to social media with fury as The Chase players took to the challenge with a new approach.

The Chase: Sue and Ben take on the final chase

The Chase returned to screens with four players taking on the game show hoping to beat the chaser and take home a staggering cash prize.

During the episode, the show fronted by Bradley Walsh saw Ben, 25, Reed, 77, Sue 57 and Johnny from Leicester go up against Jenny "The Vixen" Ryan.

After failing to win during the individual chase, only Sue and Ben went through to the final chase for an equal share of the prize fund.

However, viewers quickly noticed that the duo approached the round with a new technique and accused the teammates of cheating.

As they were both tasked with answering the general knowledge questions, Sue opted to respond: “I don’t know,” instead of “pass,” which allowed Ben the opportunity to guess.

This angered viewers who believed the players went against the rules and slammed their technique on X.

@SomersetWasBlue questioned: “Surely calling out ‘Don’t know’ in #TheChase final amounts to ‘wrong person answer’????”

Another fan @Mysteron_Voice added: “Actually *saying* ‘I don't know’ seems a bit cheaty though and perhaps should technically count as a pass …”

As @AidyWhenImGood echoed: “I think it's cheating, surely you can't confer?”

@dailowe posted: “I'd always assumed that saying anything without buzzing counted as a wrong person wrong answer Seems folks never did it cos it never occurred to them.”

Despite this, others came into the show’s defence including one viewer who stated: “Not cheating if it ain't against the rules.”

Bradley praised the duo technique: “I’ll tell you what was brilliant when Sue didn’t know an answer you were saying ‘I don’t know,’ and giving you (Ben) the chance to buzz in and pass or have a go at it, and I thought that was a brilliant tack tick. Really good.”

Jenny also remarked that it was “a really admirable tactical performance”.
