EastEnders spoilers: Chrissie Watts to return to soap? Tracy Ann Oberman speaks out
EASTENDERS saw Chrissie Watts bow out of the soap in 2005 after she pleaded guilty to the murder of Dirty Den. But could the iconic soap character return?
Tracy Ann Oberman would 'never say never' to EastEnders return
Chrissie (played by Tracy Ann Oberman) was part of a thrilling murder storyline when she killed Dirty Den Watts (Leslie Grantham) with a doorstop.
Now, Tracy has revealed whether or not she would come back to the BBC soap.
The former EastEnders actress appeared on Good Morning Britain where Kate Garraway and Charlotte Hawkins asked her about a possible return.
She teased: “Never say never, when that phonecall comes…”
Never say never
Tracy also went on to say how Chrissie was still behind bars for her crimes.
“She’s done longer than most actual murderers, it’s a shame,” she added.
The ITV hosts also probed Tracy on what it was like to still be getting messages from fans over a decade after her departure.
She said: “I think it’s humbling, EastEnders is an incredible experience and to be part of this iconic show and also to have been part of murdering Dirty Den, I take it as a compliment.
“She was a beautifully written character.”
It comes as new boss Kate Oates has spilled another old character will be returning later in the year.
Kate spoke about upcoming storylines in a Q&A posted to the show’s official Twitter page.
She said: "There is one coming back in spring that I am really excited about.
“It's going to be for a fairly short stint but I think it's going to have a really big impact."
But viewers will have to wait and see who it is.
Long-time fans also received some exciting news last month when it was unveiled that Mary “The Punk” Smith (Linda Davidson) and George “Lofty” Holloway (Tom Watt) are coming back for a short time.
They will be returning as part of Dr Harold Legg’s (Leonard Fenton) exit as they turn up at his funeral.
Lofty actor Tom said of the reappearance: “I have nothing but good memories of my time on EastEnders so it will be lovely to set foot back in Albert Square all these years later.
“I was delighted when (the show’s executive consultant) John Yorke asked me if I would return.
“Dr Legg is an iconic character so it feels fitting that Lofty should return to say goodbye.”
EastEnders continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on BBC One.
