Pirates Of The Caribbean actress Keira, 33, plays Nobel nominated French author Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, whose first four novels were published under the name of her manipulative husband.
Eleanor, 26 – Demelza Poldark in the hit BBC TV period drama – plays Georgie Raoul-Duval, with whom Colette begins an affair.
Set at the turn of the 20th century, Colette follows the writer as she fights to break free of her notorious libertine husband Willy’s control.
When Colette asks to have her name attached to her novels, Willy, who is played by Dominic West, locks his wife in a room until she continues to produce pages for him.
Keira said the film was well-timed, amid the recent Me Too movement against sexual harassment.
She said: “It’s definitely hashtag Colette too.” Colette, still one of France’s best-selling authors, broke female sexuality barriers, championing her right to sexual pleasure in her famous 1944 novel Gigi.
The film will open in UK cinemas in January.
