Princess Kate's brother reveals moment she told him she's engaged in quiet village pub
James Middleton has revealed the moment Princess Kate quietly revealed she was engaged - and how they had to water down their reaction before the news was public.
The Princess of Wales's brother, James Middleton, has revealed the key moment before she married Prince William that he knew they were both "in love".
In his new memoir, Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life, set to be released on September 26, James opens up about his battle with depression and how his spaniel Ella, who's now passed away, was instrumental in saving his life.
But he also shares glimpses of his life behind the scenes, including moments with his sister and now brother-in-law. One of those moments was just before the royal couple announced their engagement to the world in November 2010.
James said that were was already a "terrific buzz" around the country regarding their engagement.
But just before the official announcement was made, he took a walk with his sisters, Princess Kate and Pippa Middleton to a local pub in Berkshire, where the future Queen announced the joyous news.

In a segment published by the Mail, James writes: "Catherine, Pippa and I go out for a walk with Ella and Tilly to our local pub in a village close to Bucklebury.
"We sit in a corner, chattering quietly. Catherine whispers the news and says it will become public in the next day or so. Pippa and I want to be visibly excited, but we have to tamp down our emotions so no one suspects a thing.
"We make a quiet acknowledgement that we’ll always be there for each other, look out for one another, support each other. No matter how crazy things get."
James praises William saying that had been in their lives "for so long" and the whole family are "very fond of him", adding: "He feels like our older brother and he and Catherine are so clearly a good fit, just right for each other. As we digest the news, I know I haven’t yet experienced the love they feel for each other myself. But I’m hoping one day I will."
