Prince Harry made a heartbreaking admission in his autobiography Spare that would touch even the coldest heart.

The Duke of Sussex, who at the weekend celebrated his 40th birthday, made global headlines with an absolute array of astonishing details that he included in his controversial tome that is set for re-release in paperback format in late October.

One theme was the stiff upper lip attitude that Prince Harry’s family is famed for and how it impacted on his emotions.

It’s clear that the prince adored his late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II - but one small detail that may have gone under the radar was how he simply longed to give her a big hug.

“I wanted to hug her, though of course I didn’t,” Harry writes, recalling sitting at a Jubilee event with his grandmother.

The prince added: “I never had done and couldn’t imagine any circumstance under which such an act might be sanctioned.”

Meanwhile, King Charles's apparent "olive branch" to Prince Harry on Sunday has been snubbed by a royal expert.

The Royal Family's official X and Instagram accounts shared a picture of a smiling Harry, with the caption: "Wishing The Duke of Sussex a very happy 40th birthday today!".

The monarch was then quickly followed by Prince William and Princess Kate who retweeted the sweet sentiment on social media platform X.

The accounts for the Prince and Princess of Wales shared the same image, accompanied by the words, "Wishing a Happy 40th Birthday to The Duke of Sussex!”

In a shock to many royal experts and fans, the King appeared to set aside the Royal Family's tensions by sending public birthday wishes to the Duke of Sussex.

Although many believe it could be a sign that tensions between family are thawing, one royal expert Michael Cole said that it appears the gesture done by the royals - in particular the Prince of Wales - was merely them "obliging to do the right thing".

He added that Harry and William are "still at war" despite the birthday wishes.

Mr Cole said: "I think the fragility, the coldness that exist will continue at the moment," reports GB News.
